Mental Health in Wyoming: Highlighting Local Heroes

Wyoming’s open landscapes are matched by the resilience of its people. Yet, with wide spaces come challenges in access to mental health care, leaving many in need of support. Thankfully, our state is home to incredible organizations and individuals working tirelessly to bridge the gaps and foster hope!
In learning about mental health and wellness, we can de-stigmatize the entire process, get folks the help they need, and prevent a lot of suffering. Care deserts across the nation are exponentially tougher to access when you pile on insurance, cost barriers, travel, and the support folks need to even implement what they are being taught in therapy. Thousands of powerful, resilient individuals power through applying their skills in daily life, without anyone around to relate or confide in. You are not alone!

Cozykins Plushies was originally created because folks have lost their third spaces and communities. COVID-19 shut down a lot of places that depended on these people, and it’s not easy to rebuild after a having to do other things— over two years or more. Not all hope is lost! Entire organizations and efforts saw it through to the other side, and have been doing incredible work for Wyomingites! We hope to be one such of these spaces for the whole of Natrona— and anyone passing through.

Thank you for caring, learning, and supporting the people right in our community. You’re part of the catalyst for a healthier, happier Casper— and beyond!

Community Mental Health Efforts

Wyoming’s strength lies in its people, and many grassroots efforts are making a big impact:

  • Local Support Groups: Peer-led mental health and addiction recovery groups are available. You can request who your therapist or any regular doctor you may see recommends, as you may find a discount or more accessibility that way. Check out Casper Family Connections, as they tend to have a lot of local resources!

  • Therapists and Counselors: Independent mental health professionals across Wyoming provide care tailored to individual needs. Use directories like Psychology Today to find someone nearby, or hop into a more flexible option, like BetterHelp. The Mental Health Hub in Casper is an awesome resource for all needs of individual folks!

  • Telehealth Services: Programs like WyoTelehealth make mental health care accessible across Wyoming’s vast geography. You may be surprised at how many mental health professionals also offer this service as part of their regular practice! Always ask about your options.

How You Can Help

Mental health thrives in a connected and compassionate community. Aside from planting trees (proven to reduce the suicide risk), you can spend a small amount of time or dime on chipping into a major change! Here are some ways to make a difference:

  • Donate to Local Organizations: Your support helps sustain essential programs! We highly recommend

  • Educate Yourself: Learn about mental health challenges and share that knowledge to break stigma.

  • Volunteer: Many organizations need extra hands for events, outreach, and support efforts.

  • Reach Out: If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate to seek help. Small actions can change lives.

By sharing resources, uplifting local organizations, and taking steps to prioritize your own wellness, we can create a more compassionate and connected community!

Know of an inspiring mental health initiative or story? We’d love to highlight it. Share your thoughts and suggestions with us—your voice matters! Mental health is a cornerstone of our mission, and we’re proud to shine a light on those working to build a healthier Wyoming.
