Springtime Adventures: Respecting Nature, Finding Peace

Grand Teton National Park-- Evergreen trees backed by snowcappedmountains, North Wyoming.

As Wyoming begins to creep into the spring season, our National Parks beckon with open arms! From the bubbling thermal features of Yellowstone to the rugged peaks of Grand Teton, these spaces offer a blend of awe-inspiring beauty and opportunities for reflection and self-care. But with the privilege of exploring these wild places comes the responsibility to treat them—and ourselves—with respect and care.

Respecting the Wild: A Matter of Life and Legacy

Every year, heartbreaking stories remind us of the consequences of breaking park rules: wildlife needing euthanasia after being fed, thermal features damaged by careless visitors, or lives lost due to preventable accidents. These lands are wild and untamed—that’s their magic! By honoring the rules, we preserve that magic for ourselves and generations to come.
Rules are posted on the website and entries to our parks. If you’re not sure why a rule exists, you can always ask a Park Ranger, or check out a quick Youtube video explaining some of the stuff folks have done over the years and how we have had to instill these things to prevent harm and save lives!

How to Be a Responsible Visitor

  • Stay on Trails: Off-trail wandering can harm fragile environments and put you in danger.

  • Admire Wildlife from Afar: Respect animals by observing them at safe distances— which is probably much farther than you think.

  • Pack It In, Pack It Out: Leave nothing behind, ensuring these spaces remain pristine.

  • Respect Thermal Features: Admire their beauty from the boardwalks—they’re both dangerous and delicate.

  • Know the Rules: Every park is unique. Take time to learn the guidelines before you go!

Cozy Adventures with Plushie Friends

Nature isn’t just for grand adventures; it’s perfect for quiet moments, personal growth, and even a little fun! Why not take a plushie along for the journey? Plush friends can add whimsy to your hikes, provide comfort during quiet moments, or even star in your favorite photos!

Here are some ideas for a cozy National Park adventure with your plushie:

  • Plushie Picnics: Set up a scenic snack spot and enjoy a moment of peace with your soft companion.

  • Photo Fun: Capture your plushie at iconic park landmarks. Don’t forget to tag us—we’d love to see your snapshots!

  • Reflection Buddy: Use your plush as a comforting presence while journaling or meditating outdoors.

Nature as Self-Care

Time in nature is one of the best forms of self-care. Studies show that being outdoors can reduce stress, boost mood, and increase overall well-being. Our National Parks offer the perfect escape to reset and recharge. Wyoming overall has less than 4% tree coverage, which is associated with increased risk of suicide. Please plant where you can, encourage tree initiatives, and call or text 988 if you’re having troublesome thoughts about hurting yourself. There’s a lot to do and see, and you’ve made it this far! Thanks for being here.
Get out and about, shake off the cabin fever! Here’s how to make the most of your time outdoors for self-care:

  • Go Slow: Take a leisurely hike and focus on your surroundings—the rustle of leaves, the scent of pine, the feeling of fresh air.

  • Unplug: Leave devices behind and fully immerse yourself in the moment.

  • Reflect: Bring a journal or sketchbook to capture your thoughts, feelings, or the beauty around you.

  • Savor Solitude or Connection: Whether you go solo or with loved ones, allow the experience to ground and uplift you.

Supporting the Future of Our Parks

Our parks are not just treasures to enjoy—they’re legacies to protect. Here are organizations working to preserve and sustain Wyoming’s natural wonders:

Let’s Share the Beauty

This spring, let’s celebrate the magic of Wyoming’s parks by treating them with care and respect—and by making memories that connect us to their wonders. Whether you’re hiking with a plushie pal, taking time to reflect in nature, or sharing your favorite park adventures, we’d love to hear your stories.

Find us on Bluesky and Mastodon, and let’s keep the conversation going about preserving and cherishing these incredible spaces. Here’s to a season of connection, self-care, and cozy adventures in the great outdoors! 🌿🧸
